An ex-convict who is part of a gang of four robbers has been arrested by police for attacking and robbing students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) at their hostel at Ayeduase, near Kumasi.
The robbery incident occurred on Monday May 23, after which police managed to apprehend the suspect.
Mallam Sulemana, alias Romeo, who is currently in custody, identified Abass, Akwasi, and Kolo as his accomplices. The three fled after police officers from two patrol teams moved to the scene.
A search conducted on Romeo by the police revealed a locally manufactured pistol, 10 BB live cartridges, two Nokia mobile phones, and a lady’s wrist watch.
Other items retrieved from him include a spent cartridge and GHS52 cash.
Ashanti regional police commander Ken Yeboah, addressing the press on Tuesday May 23, indicated that the suspect admitted to the crime and was subsequently identified by his victims.
He said the suspect was currently assisting police in investigations while the hunt for those on the run continues.
