The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on Vice-President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur to apologise for saying the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) will give the NPP a double dose of its own medicine as far as insults were concerned in the lead-up to the 7 December polls.
Mr Amissah-Arthur, at the launch of his party’s Central regional campaign at Agona Swedru recently said: “It is the empty vessel that makes the most noise. The NPP has accused the NDC of not achieving anything in government. President Mahama has released the Green Book, our achievements as a government can be seen in that Green Book. While members of the NPP were insulting us, we were working. From now onwards, if they say one, we’ll say two. The NDC’s achievements in government are more than those of the NPP.”
But speaking during the annual convention of the Musama Disco Christo Church at Gomoa Mozano on Wednesday August 31, Mr Amissah-Arthur said his comments have been misinterpreted. He explained that his comments meant that if the opposition mentioned one achievement of theirs, the NDC would mention two or more as a counter, particularly as captured in the Green Book.
Reacting to the Vice President’s explanation, however, the Deputy Communication Director of the NPP, Mr Anthony Karbo, told Class News that Ghanaians and the NPP need an apology from Mr Amissah-Arthur and not clarifications.
“The vice-president was in a very indecent position, knowing his character for who he is and if he finds it proper to come back on this matter, he should rather come back and apologise to us because we have been focused on campaigning on issues and how to address those issues and the country is listening to us,” he stated.
However, presidential staffer Mr James Agyenim-Boaten, who is an aide to the vice-president said his boss said nothing wrong for which he should apologise.
