Students of the Asokore Training College in the Eastern Region, on Wednesday, 24 January, 2018, demonstrated against authorities of the college over what they described as undue withholding of their allowances and dubious deductions.
According to the students, the college authorities have refused to pay their four-month allowance without any cogent reason.
Speaking to Class News’ regional correspondent, McAnthony Dagyenga, the students asserted that the school authorities are unlawfully making deductions from their monthly allowance at source, as they end up with GHS200 instead of GHS400.
The third-year students, who are currently on their outreach programmes, said they do not stay on campus and do not eat from the school, hence see no reason for the deductions.
“The amount is GHS400, we the level 300 students, we are no more on campus, so we are not feeding on campus. So the total amount was supposed to be given to us. We don’t know the reason [but] when the allowance comes, they deduct GHS200 from it as feeding fee but we are no more on campus,” one student said.
However, a member of the school’s administration assured the students that their allowances will be disbursed on Friday, 26 January, 2018.
The students said if allowances are not restored by the said date as promised, they would be tempted to shut down some of the offices of the administration.
