A group calling itself the Alcoholic Beverage Consumers Association of Ghana has expressed displeasure indicating that they will soon petition President Nana Akufo-Addo over the Food and Drugs Authority’s guidelines banning advertisement of alcoholic beverage on radio and television between 6.00am and 8.00pm.
Members of the association feel that the ban is crippling the alcoholic beverage industries as well as negatively affecting revenue of media houses that advertise alcohol products.
President of the association, Mr Emmanuel Kwaku Addai Poku noted on Wednesday February 21, that if the regulation seeks to protect minors, then it has been misapplied as duration for the ban is when kids are supposed to be in school and will not have access to the media platforms on which the products will be advertised.
He disclosed that the petition would reach the President before the end of the week.
According to Mr Poku their association is not for members who are drunkards but very responsible and noble individuals who consume alcohol in average quantities and for reasonable purposes.
