Nana Akufo-Addo is shying away from debating President John Mahama because he knows his campaign promises are unrealistic, General Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said.
Mr Nketia told party supporters in the Ashanti Region where President John Mahama is on a four-day tour that the flag bearer of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is just hoodwinking Ghanaians with promises so he will earn votes.
Mr Akufo-Addo has promised to build a dam in each farming village in the three regions up north as well as build a factor in each of the 216 districts in the country. He has also promised to give each of the 275 constituencies $1million annually for infrastructure and industrial purposes. He has also promised to scrap taxes on raw materials to spur local production.
Mr Asiedu Nketia, however, said all those promises are a sham, thus, Mr Akufo-Addo’s decision not to debate Mr Mahama since, in Mr Nketia’s view, he risked being exposed.
President John Mahama has thrown three debate challenges to Mr Akufo-Addo ahead of the December polls but the former Attorney General and his party has turned him down.
