The government of President Nana Akufo-Addo is “too big” and “fat”, renowned Ghanaian businessman Dr Ishmael Yamson has said.
“We have too big a government, our government is too big,” he complained to Moro Awudu on Class91.3FM’s Executive Breakfast Show on Wednesday, 17 May in an interview that was a foretaste to the Ishmael Yamson and Associates Business Roundtable 2017 billed for 31 May.
According to the CEO of Yamson and Associates, a small third world country like Ghana should not have 110 Ministers and Deputies as currently pertains in the Akufo-Addo government.
“Twenty-something million people, we have 110 Ministers, we have so many deputy ministers, we have so many DCEs, we are over governed,” he complained, adding: “If you see a fat person, you can see that he is fat.”
“If two people are walking and you have a slim one and a fat one, you can easily see this person is fat, that person is slim, so, if I see a fat government I can see it,” he observed.
“I’m not being critical,” Dr Yamson said, noting that the sheer number of Ministers has created needless cost irrespective of what gains come out of the huge number of ministers.
“I’m saying if the outcomes will come, that’s fine but what we have done is that we have already created the cost by appointing all these people, so, if the outcomes don’t come through, remember you already created the cost and you have to pay …” Dr Yamson explained.
