President Nana Akufo-Addo has done nothing wrong in sacking public officers appointed by the Mahama administration, Director of Business Operations at Dalex Finance & Leasing Company, Mr Joe Jackson has said.
Mr Jackson told Moro Awudu on Class91.3FM’s Executive Breakfast Show on Monday, 30 January that President Akufo-Addo’s critics who are flaying him for sacking officials appointed by ex-president John Mahama are “ignorant” of the transition laws.
He said as far as political appointments are concerned, “… The current law says that when the administration ends, your appointment has ended.”
“I will even go so far as to say that if you are a political appointee and you are continuing to occupy your office in some parastatal, you are in breach of the law. … Let us be clear on this, the law sates clearly that on 7 December you are to vacate your position,” he said.
He wondered why some public officials appointed by the Mahama administration were still occupying their offices despite the change in government even though Ministers appointed by Mr Mahama left office on the same day Mr Mahama did.
“Why were you in position?” he asked.
Among some of the appointees sacked so far is Dr Stephen Opuni of Cocobod. His dismissal was welcomed by both members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
