The flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, is using politics of deceit ahead of the December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections, Baba Jamal Konneh, Director of Communications for the Eastern regional branch of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), has said.
According to him, the campaign promises of the three-time flag bearer of the NPP were not realistic but were made for political expediency.
Mr Akufo-Addo, as part of his campaign activities ahead of the elections, has promised to establish one factory in each of the 216 districts across the country and also set up an irrigation dam in every farming village in the regions up north. His vice presidential nominee, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has also said a future Akufo-Addo government will give each of the 275 constituencies $1million per year for infrastructural development and poverty eradication. But Mr Konneh thinks these promises are meant to hoodwink the electorate.
In a statement released on Sunday September 4, Mr Konneh said: “The people in the region (Eastern Region) are of the view that his (Akufo-Addo) promises are to deceive Ghanaians because he couldn’t even develop his constituency as a Member of Parliament for 12 years and a minister of state for eight good years.”
“He went to parliament through the same lies and deceit and at the end, his achievement in the constituency was less than 12%.”
“The question is: ‘If his home region has rejected him, why should other regions waste their votes on him?’”
