It will be difficult, if not impossible, for President Nana Akufo-Addo to deliver on his promise to make Accra the cleanest city in Africa, Brig. Gen. Joseph Nunoo-Mensah (rtd) has said.
“I’ll challenge him; it is almost an impossible task. Unless he kills himself doing that, he can’t do it,” he told Moro Awudu on Class FM’s Executive Breakfast Show on Tuesday, May 9.
President Akufo-Addo made the pledge to solve the sanitation issue in Accra in an address he delivered after his installation as chief by the people of Jamestown and the Ngleshie Alata Traditional Council, under the title Nii Kwaku Abladey Okudzeaman I.
Mr Akufo-Addo said: “The commitment we are making and which I want you all to make with me is that by the time we end our four-year term, Accra is going to be the cleanest city in Africa,” he stated.
However the former Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces believes the attitude of Ghanaians towards sanitation will make it a tough task.
Even though he admitted that the president had the will, he indicated that it would take more than his will because Ghanaians in general must change their attitudes towards sanitation.
“You can’t go and clear…Afadzato because you have the will, you will die clearing it… There are some jobs you cannot do,” he reiterated.
