There has been a bloody clash between Kokombas and Dagombas at the Kokomba Market at the Agbogbloshie Market in Accra on Tuesday, 11 April.
An eyewitness, Kweku Ofori, told ClassFMonline.com that the fight is so bloody that even the police officers who were dispatched to the area had to flee for dear life.
“They are hacking themselves with machetes,” Ofori, who says he sells at Kantamanto told ClassFMonline.com. “Some of them are also wielding guns and firing warning shots,” he added.
He could, however, not tell what sparked the bloody conflict but noted that such conflicts are recurrent and have political undertones. He said several people have been injured in the clash while two people have died.
The police have confirmed the clash but are yet to confirm if there have been any deaths. Some other residents said tear gas was fired by the police to control the situation but to no avail.
Meanwhile, Accra Regional Police Commander, DCOP Osabarima Oware, has told ClassFMonline.com that they have called for military reinforcement in dealing with the situation.
In 2014, there was a similar clash between Dagombas and Nanumbas over a motorbike, GH₵70 and copper wire. Several people in the area were also injured while a number of properties were vandalised and destroyed in the process.
