The Spokesperson of the National Chairman of the NPP says Paul Afoko is ready to meet with the Disciplinary Committee of the party.
The National Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party in a 7-page letter to the party’s Disciplinary Committee, has ordered that steps be taken to suspend Mr. Paul Afoko from his office until at least after the 2016 General Elections.
According to the letter signed by the chairman of the Council of Elders CK Tedam, the conduct of Mr. Afoko and his Spokesperson is not in line with the party’s Constitution.
Paul Afoko’s Spokesperson says his boss has received a copy of the letter and was surprised by its content.
Nana Yaw Osei quoted Mr. Afoko as saying he believes everything he is doing in his capacity as the Chairman of the NPP is in accordance with the constitution of the party.
“He is an Executive of the party, not just that but a National Executive so if he is called to appear before the Disciplinary Committee, he is ready to go,” he said.
Although Nana Yaw refused to speak directly to the content of the letter, he said Paul Afoko is very focused on his job as the National Chairman of the NPP despite the many allegations leveled against him with an ultimate goal of helping the party return to power.
The Third Vice Chairman of New Patriotic Party, Fredrick Fredua Anto disagreed with the decision of the Council of Elders.
According to him, the Council has the power to settle cases and not to make decisions according to (Article 15) of the NPP’s constitution.
“Whoever is dissatisfied with the conduct of any party member should petition the Disciplinary Committee. It is wrong for the National Council of Elders to order the Disciplinary Committee to suspend Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyapong,” he said.
F. F Anto advised Mr. Afoko to focus on helping the NPP to win the 2016 Elections and return to power
