Congolese striker Dieumerci Mbokani has said a result is not beyond the means of his side when they play the Black Stars of Ghana in the quarter-finals at the Stade d’Oyem at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday January 29.
The Congolese were bronze medallists at the 2015 edition of the tournament while the Stars placed grabbed silver. The Congolese last conquered Africa in 1974 following an earlier triumph in 1968.
“I was in the Congolese team that played against the Ghanaians in the group stages in South Africa and I don’t think the squad has changed much since then. As you can see from the performances this year, we are on an upward trajectory. We beat Morocco by a lone goal, drew 2-2 against the Ivorians, and scored three goals against the Togolese. We can only get better. We do not intend to go home and want to even do better than we did in the previous edition. That is how seriously we are taking the competition,” he told Class Sports’ Kwame Dwomoh-Agyemang.
“The Ghanaian side are good and have some amazing players, but we have some gifted players as well and we are confident we have a squad good enough to beat Ghana in our fourth straight game at the competition.”
