Ghana Black Stars head coach Avram Grant has said his team are not ready yet for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations but will be in top form before the tournament kicks off in Gabon on January 14.
Grant and his team have been camping in the city of Dubai since January 3 and on Tuesday played their only pre-tournament match against Uzbek club Bunyodkor, which ended in a 2-0 victory for the Black Stars.
The team’s plans have been hampered by financial difficulties and this has affected the organisation of top friendly games for the playing body.
Avram Grant admitted this has had an effect on the team but believed his team was still within schedule to deliver when they play their first game of the competition against the Cranes of Uganda.
Speaking from the team’s camp, Grant told Class Sports: “We are not ready now but we will be in one week. We have a week more to get ready mentally and physically for our first game on January 17. The team has been training well and we are within schedule as well to achieve our target.”
The team is expected to wrap up preparations and depart for Gabon on Friday, January 13
