The head coach of the Black Stars, Avram Grant, has denied he was influence in his squad selection for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Israeli trainer on Monday named a provisional 26-man squad to camp in the United Arab Emirates ahead of the 2017 African Cup of Nations to be staged in Gabon on January 14.
“I must tell you nobody tried to even influence me… I can tell you nobody influenced this list. The squad is my responsibility and the coach needs to decide about this and also consider the concerns of my staff, but the decision is mine,” he said in a question-and-answer session with the media in Accra on Monday.
Captain Asamoah Gyan leads the side that will begin an 11-day training tour in the UAE before travelling to Gabon on January 13 for the competition.
Three new youngsters – Ebenezer Ofori, Joseph Attamah Larweh, and Raphael Dwamena – all made the list for the provisional squad and could make their first ever appearance at the AFCON. Other notable names in the squad include deputy captain Andre Ayew, Christian Atsu, Mubarak Wakaso and Jonathan Mensah.
