Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya Constituency Sarah Adwoa Safo has rendered an unqualified apology to the rank and file of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), particularly President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Osei-Opare for her conduct in the recent past.
She said her conduct was unintentional and was as a result of challenges she was going through not only as an individual but as a family member.
The former Deputy Majority Leader asked for forgiveness from the Majority Caucus, her party’s regional as well as constituency executives.
“I take this opportunity in the name of God to beg you all,” she said in Twi in a video broadcast posted on Facebook on Thursday, September 14.
“My regional executives, my constituency executives led by Chairman Bonsu, the headquarters of the New Patriotic Party, the General Secretary and the National Chairman and your executives, I beg you all.
“Supporters and sympathisers who love the party and love me and had great confidence in my constituency, I beg you all. Whatever has happened forgive me my sins.”
Ms Adwoa Safo faced the Privileges Committee of Parliament in 2022 after over a year of absence.
Her seat became a subject of intense debate as her fellow Majority members wanted it declared vacant, much to resistance from National Democratic Congress (NDC) MPs.
The Speaker is yet to rule on the report from the Committee.
Returning to Ghana, the former Minister of Procurement had declared her intentions to contest the party’s primaries for the 2024 elections.
“But I know [God] has opened the way,” she told some party supporters on Wednesday, June 14, 2023.
“He has paved a new way through you.
“So, all I am saying is that if God willing the leadership of the party opens nominations for parliamentary primaries, as you are behind me, I will contest again. No baga waya,” she said in Twi amid cheers from her audience.
