A member of the New Patriotic Party, Hajia Fati has justified physically assaulting Ohemaa Sakyiwaa Ahwenepa, a journalist of Adom FM because she did not introduce herself as a journalist before taking photographs of her.
Hajia Fati in an interview on Joy FM on Monday revealed that she slapped Ohemaa Sakyiwaa Ahwenepa last Friday at the NPP headquarters because she looked more of an onion seller than a journalist.
She claimed that the Adom FM reporter acted unprofessionally by not introducing herself first before taking the picture.
She recounted: “I was sitting at the reception when I saw a flash on my face. 1,2, the third one I said why, then I slapped the phone and everything off, that’s all.
Haji Fati said she assumed that the reporter was an affiliate of suspended Second Vice Chairman of the NPP, Sammy Crabbe and was taking her photos for ulterior motives.
“That is what I know, I didn’t know she’s your colleague, nobody approached me. I didn’t know where she is taking my picture to. I thought it’s Sammy Crabbe’s women who are snapping me that’s why and that woman there she doesn’t resemble a journalist.
“She resembles a woman like me selling onions in the market. I don’t know her… she doesn’t resemble a journalist and she didn’t do the work of journalist because she didn’t approach me, so don’t say I have hit your colleague”.
Ohemaa Sakyiwaa Ahwenepa was reporting on the visit by suspended Second Vice Chairman of the party, Sammy Crabbe to pick forms to contest the party’s chairmanship position at the NPP’s upcoming National Delegates Congress. She said an attempt to interview Hajia Fati resulted in her being punched on the mouth.
“I got closer to her. I wanted to interview her so I took my phone out. I wanted to take a picture and so as soon as she turned, she looked at my face and asked me why I was taking pictures of her. I didn’t utter a word. She punched my mouth, and she almost took the phone from me,” she narrated.
