The Chief of Amakom Traditional area in the Ashanti Region, Nana Mensah Asare, has appealed to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to focus on adding value to the natural resources produced in the country in order to export them to earn more foreign exchange for the development of the country.
According to him, this will ensure that more factories are created in the country to employ Ghanaians, a situation he said will reduce the unemployment rate.
He told a forum on Thursday, 25 October that the nation cannot develop if the natural resources are exported in their raw state.
“We cannot develop the nation without adding value to the natural resources we produce in this country,” he said.
“To that end”, he said, “The Akufo-Addo administration must create factories that will add value to these natural resources for both export and domestic use.”
Nana Asare also appealed to the government to revamp all the collapsed state factories while building new ones.
“There are several companies that existed in the past but have folded up and I will urge the government to look at revamping all those factories alongside the creation of other factories,” he said.
