President John Mahama is transforming Ghana with huge investments, Mr Kofi Adams, National Organiser of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), has said.
The NDC, ahead of this year’s presidential and parliamentary elections, is putting together its manifesto to be launched soon. The party believes that Mr Mahama, its flagbearer for the 2016 elections, has performed creditably well, for which reason his mandate should be renewed by Ghanaians.
Speaking on local television station TV3 on Sunday August 7, Mr Adams said as part of his achievements, Mr Mahama has solved the problem of water shortage that has plagued several parts of the country for years. He said Mr Mahama has also made investments in education and healthcare, by abolishing the shift system in basic schools and also providing several beds to many hospitals in the country, respectively.
He said: “It [Water shortage] has drastically been reduced, if you see it, then maybe it’s as a result of a burst pipe or because a pipe has not been connected, not because there is no water. Go to areas like La, Teshie, Nungua, Adentan, Maamobi, and the rest that used to go without water. Adentan for years hasn’t seen water; today they have water. You go to places like Kyebi that haven’t seen good water, today they have water; you go to areas like Kumawu that haven’t seen water, today they have water. … That is why President Mahama says he is transforming, he is not just growing but he has to transform [and] that is what people don’t understand.”
“…In the past, you walk the streets of Accra and you meet a young person in the morning and he tells you: ‘I am for the afternoon shift.’ You meet him in the afternoon he says: ‘I went in the morning.’ Today, that has drastically been removed. You hardly will see such a situation again. All kids go to school at the same normal time…so you are bettering their lot,” he added.
Mr Adams continued: “Go to health…you will realise the heavy investment in the area of healthcare provision with regards to infrastructure,” adding: “…I pray that this year, Ghanaians will vote based on the performance because we have performed so well that they will not just look at somebody saying that: ‘Sɔ me hwɛ’ (i.e. Try me) … and make a mistake,” he hoped.
