An Accra Circuit Court on Thursday January 19 remanded an auto mechanic in police custody for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old girl at Ofankor, near Accra.
According to Accra News’ court correspondent, Ama Brako Ampofo, the prosecution told the court that the accused, Eric Adu, 19, lured the minor into his room, a wooden shack at Ofankor, on December 31 and subsequently had sex with her, an account he denies.
According to Adu, he had called the victim to run an errand for him but once the girl entered his room she decided to watch a programme on television before setting off on the errand. The accused explained that the victim fell asleep as she watched TV and her exposed thighs, while she slept, enticed him, leading to him having sex with the little girl.
The presiding judge reminded the accused of the inconsistency of his narration to the court and his earlier plea of not guilty, asking him if he would want to change his plea – a suggestion he rejected.
The case has been adjourned to Tuesday January 31.
