The Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa North, Gifty Twum Ampofo, has so much hatred for the late Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu, who until his demise was the MP for the area, Charles Boateng, a former aide to the late MP, has said.
According to him, Mrs Twum Ampofo privately disliked the slain MP but pretended to have an affection for him. This situation, he said, had brewed tension among the NPP in the constituency.
Speaking in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom, on Accra100.5FM on Tuesday, November 22, Mr Boateng, who has switched camps from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to support the National Democratic Congress parliamentary candidate for the constituency, Victor Smith, said: “She goes out and campaigns in JB’s name but in secret she detested him. I felt bad and so I got in contact with Ambassador Smith who was just like JB Danquah in terms of his patience and his willingness to help the constituency. I decided to join the NDC’s campaign because Mrs Twum Ampofo does not have the welfare of the people at heart. She is a hypocrite and because of that most of the people don’t like her in the constituency.”
He added: “Even the cars that JB bought for the campaign before his unfortunate demise, the MP has not branded them in the party colours and this is an indication of her hatred for JB.”
Meanwhile the MP, responding, denied the accusations.
She said: “The cars that I bought myself have not even been branded; they only have posters. Some of the cars that JB also bought have been branded, whereas others have not, and so I don’t know what the gentleman is talking about.
“Before I became MP, I was living at Akosombo, but I kept visiting Abuakwa North and voted in Abuakwa North. That showed how much I loved JB Danquah.
“All the things he (Boateng) is saying about me are not true. I am shocked at those comments he has made.”
