The chief of Abetifi, Nana Asiedu Agyeman III, has been sued for his installation as traditional ruler of the area.
He was sued by Nana Kwabena Boampong, who is the head (Abusuapanin) of the Sosomansan family at Abetifi in the Eastern Region.
According to Mr Boampong, Nana Asiedu Agyeman III is unfit to be installed as chief because he is not a royal. He explained that some kingmakers had fraudulently enthroned him, for which he was in court to settle the matter.
Speaking in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom on Accra100.5FM, Mr Boampong said: “All of us in Abetifi know the current chief is not the rightful person to be installed as chief because he does not come from our family. The stool is supposed to be occupied by someone from our family but some people schemed and failed to follow due procedure to install this chief for us. We disagree with this thing and so the only place we can seek redress is the court.
“So I am in court over the issue where Asiedu Agyeman III is the chief. The stool actually belongs to my family.”
He reiterated: “Nana Aseidu Agyeman III was not supposed to be enstooled chief of Abetifi but he became chief due to the manipulation of the system by some so-called kingmakers.
“There was a court ruling in 1981 that indicated this particular stool should be occupied only by our family and no one else, but the kingmakers have managed to manipulate the system and ignored the court and brought alien to become the chief of Abetifi.”
