Egypt left back Mohamed Abdel-Shafi’s fitness is in serious doubt for the game against Ghana in the third round of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations on Wednesday after the player sustained an ankle sprain in the 1-0 win over Uganda on Saturday.
“We will determine Abdel-Shafi’s situation for Ghana’s game on Sunday as he’s suffering from an ankle sprain,” said Egypt national team doctor Mohamed Abou El-Ela.
The Ahly Jeddah defender played the full 90 minutes on Saturday despite sustaining the minor injury.
Egypt are scheduled to face Ghana, who have already secured their place in the quarters, in the last round of group matches on Wednesday January 25.
“Except for Abdel-Shafi, all Egypt national team players are fit for the game,” the team doctor added.
Egypt are second in the group with four points from two games, two behind leaders Ghana, who secured their place in the last eight with a narrow 1-0 victory over Mali earlier on Saturday.
