A 24-year-old journalist with Accra-based Class91.3FM, Desmond Decker, has picked up forms to become a member of the Council of State.
As of Tuesday January 17, Mr Decker was the only one to have picked up a form at the Electoral Commission’s Greater Accra office.
Mr Decker will become Ghana’s youngest member of the Council of State if he is voted for by an electoral college.
The EC on Monday, 16 January announced that it would hold elections for regional representatives to the Council of State on Thursday February 9, 2017.
In a release signed by Head of Communications Eric Kofi Dzakpasu, the EC said it would be accepting nominations from prospective candidates for the election at its regional offices from Friday January 20 to Thursday January 26, 2017 from 8:00am to midday and from 2pm to 4pm daily.
The venues for the regional elections are, however, yet to be determined by the commission.
To be eligible to contest the poll, applicants must be Ghanaian, of sound mind, be eligible to contest, and be native to or resident in the regions they seek to represent.
