The newly-elected Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Divine Otoo Agorhom has said that he will implement strategies to ensure that the party wins 60 percent of votes in the 2020 presidential polls in the region.
Mr Agorhom, who was a guest on Accra FM’s Ghana Yensom on Tuesday, 24 April 2018, told the host Chief Jerry Forson that his mandate will be to secure maximum votes for the party in 2020.
He said he was looking at “60 percent of the popular votes for the presidential candidate” and to ensure that the NPP gains more parliamentary seats in addition to what they have in the region.
Certain constituencies have proven to be swing seats and not clearly defined as to which party gains majority of the votes.
To address this situation, Mr Agorhom said he’ll devise strategies and analyse the situation that leads to swing seats and address them appropriately.
For him, he is looking at a united front to bring all the party stalwarts under one leadership including his opponents for the success of the NPP.
Mr Agorhom, who is CEO for Standard Water, narrowly beat his arch-rival by polling a total of 276 valid votes, seven more than Mr Alfred Boye’s 269 in the poll on Saturday, 21 April held at the Trade Fair Centre.
Another aspirant, Archibald Cobbina managed to poll 65 votes.
Mr Agorhom won despite support for his closest contestant by NPP MPs in the Greater Accra Region.
