A businessman and philanthropist, Alhaji Labaran Barry, has donated an ambulance worth 85,000 US dollars to the Winneba Municipal Hospital (WMH) in memory of his late wife Hajia Sumaiyah Labaran at a special ceremony in Winneba to support the hospital’s Accident and Emergency Unit. The facility has in built life support equipments for its smooth running.
The donation was made as a result of the hospital’s request to Alhaji Labaran and his late wife’s to assist them acquire an ambulance for the Accident and Emergency Unit. As a philanthropist, he and the wife did not hesitate but assured the hospital to offer them help at the right time.
Mrs. Victoria Reynolds Quartey, a sister to the late Hajia Sumaiyah Labaran, who donated the ambulance on behalf of the representative of Alhaji Labaran said, her sister and the husband always fulfill their promises made to people, she added that the renovated of male ward and other sectors of the hospital were through the immense support of Alhaji Labaran.
She said, the Labaran’s family has been helping small scale businessmen and women, the youth in their education and the Effutu community all to the benefit of the people in the country.
Receiving the ambulance on behalf of the hospital, the medical superintends of the Winneba Municipal Hospital Dr.George Kwame Prah said, the hospital has benefitted from a similar ambulance in 2008 from the National Ambulance Service but was taken away from them in the same year and since then it has been having challenges to solve accident and emergence problems.
“The hospital has been in existence since 1929 and people professed it to be redundant and dilapidated but I tell you it is still one of the best in the municipality as well as the country due to its hardworking, energetic and highly motivated quality staff,”he added.
Dr. George Kwame Prah on behalf of the hospital thanked the family of Alhaji Labaran Barry, the family and expressed his gratitude to him and his late wife, he entreated everybody to emulate the benevolence and selfless character of the late Hajia Sumaiyah Labaran and the husband Alhaji Labarana.
He appealed to the youth to comport themselves in this festive season. He advised everybody to abstain from alcohol while driving and desist from unnecessary over-speeding.
He assured the people of Winneba and its environs that the hospital will keep rendering quality services to all sundry and ensure that the hospital remains the best in the Municipality and beyond.
