The private sector will be engaged to ensure a vibrant tourism sector in Ghana, Catherine Afeku, Minister-designate of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, has said.
Speaking during her vetting by the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Monday, 6 February, she said: “During the transitional team meeting, one of the pivotal challenges we realised was the lack of signage to tourist sites in Ghana.”
“If given the nod, as part of our strategic planning and efforts to boost domestic and international tourism, we have plans to engage the private sector in getting signage, especially in different colour codes as done in other jurisdictions, to show that this is a tourist site, and also we will encourage the signage visibility so it is part and parcel of the strategic planning.
“The entire service culture requires re-engineering and as part of our manifesto pledge, once given the nod we intend to collaborate with the private sector to establish a state-of-the-art hotel management training school where Ghana will be noticed for service training, kitchen and management of hotels.
“So we do hope to deepen the collaboration with the private sector and encourage investment in the hotel management training institute.”
