The Ghana Police Service has said it is committed to ensuring that bad nuts are removed from within its ranks.
Superintendent Cephas Arthur has said it has become critical that the police administration purges itself following concerns that have been raised over the years about the conduct of some police officers.
His comments follow the dismissal of over 41 police recruits from police training schools for allegedly using fake certificates to get recruited into the Ghana Police Service.
Out of the number, 22 trainees were dismissed from the Pwalugu Police Training School in the Upper East Region, 10 from the Kumasi Police Training School in the Ashanti Region, five from the Police Training School in the Greater Accra Region, two from the Police Training School in Koforidua, Eastern Region, while two were from the Ho Police Training School in the Volta Region.
Speaking in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom, on Accra100.5FM on Wednesday 22 March, Supt Arthur said: “These are people we suspect forged the documents they used in applying and they will be made to face the laws for alleged forgery.
“We have served notice that anybody who forged his or her documents will be smoked out, there is the need to improve on the quality of service the officers are rendering. The general public has over the years raised issues with the quality of persons who are recruited into the Police and so we must be seen as doing enough to cleanse ourselves.”
