Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has called for the resignation of the Auditor-General, Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu, from post.Remove AdsRemove Ads
He has accused the Auditor-General of reneging on his duty to the state by failing to protect the public purse.
Mr Kpebu’s comment follows latest revelations by a forensic audit by the Auditor-General that uncovered massive financial irregularities at the National Service Authority amounting to 2.5 billion cedis.
According to the latest forensic and technical audit report, the losses stem from system bypasses, poor governance, payroll manipulation, and vendor mismanagement between 2018 and 2024.
In one startling finding, the report revealed that the Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Scheme, Gifty Oware-Mensah, was wrongly listed on the Scheme’s payroll as service personnel despite serving as a full-time public officer.Remove AdsRemove Ads
This the private legal practitioner finds disturbing, thus blaming the Auditor-General for failing the country all these years.
Speaking on 3FM’s Hot Edition on October 29, Kpebu wants the Auditor-General to honorably resign for sleeping on the job. He argued that the information may not have come out if there wasn’t a change in government.
‘‘It tells you that the Auditor-General has been sleeping on the job all these years. Or was conniving with the previous administration. We have to say it clearly. Where was the Auditor-General when all these things were happening? Where was the Auditor-General and his staff all those years? Because if there hasn’t been a change in government, all these things won’t have come out. So I think he should honorably resign. He as well as his management members should just go. Because they have just shown that, they have been sleeping on the job for all these years’’. He asserted.
