Deputy National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called the bluff of those calling on the ace investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas to show the damning video of judges collecting bribes.
According to Kwaku Boahen, it is for the law to determine whether the judges implicated in the video are guilty.
“We need to stop talking about this judicial scandal and allow the rightful authorities to decide on what to do.
“Though what they did was not right according to the investigations conducted by Anas, I think they (judges) were tempted by money and so I will continue to defend them,” he said.
The exposé by Anas regarding the massive corruption in Ghana’s judiciary has left some judges scrambling for cover.
Currently, 22 circuit court judges and magistrates have been suspended while 12 superior court judges, mostly at the high courts, are facing possible impeachment for corruption.
The high-profile judges have been captured on either video or audio collecting bribes in order to give judgements in favour of those who had offered them (bribes) and sometimes to the highest bidder.
Though some people believe premiering the damning video of those ‘corrupt’ judges will go a long way to purge the judiciary of corruption, the NDC communicator however believes that when the video is shown to the public, it will not only tarnish their image but will compromise the country’s democracy.
“I’m urging Anas not to show the video but rather wait for the law to take its course before any decision is taken. Mind you, you are dealing with judges and therefore need not to do anything to disgrace them else it will spell for all of us,” he indicated on Adom FM’s morning ‘Dwaso Nsem’ Monday.
Kwaku Boahen further blamed the award winning investigative journalist for luring the judges into such a “mess”, stressing Anas’ tactics was illegal.
