President John Mahama has admonished judges to sit-up and endeavor not to entertain law suits that only seek to delay national projects.
Citing the legal hurdles that frustrated the beginning of the Atuabo Free Port project, President Mahama believes the delays of the project went through were needless since parliament had already approved it.
Some five minority Members of Parliament dragged government to court over its agreement with Lornho Ports for the construction of the free port project.
Before the court dismissed the case, they argued that a clause in the agreement was not in the best interest of the nation.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Ghana Gas Plant at Atuabo in the Western region, President Mahama asked the judiciary to be up and doing and seek to promote the national interest at all times.
He lamented that after government had received the green light for the commencement of the project “…then another group of MPs go and take the same case, the same grounds and go back to court again to hold up the progress of this project.”
“What makes it even sad is that these are MPs who sat in Parliament at the time this project was debated in Parliament and the sovereign Parliament of the Republic of Ghana voted for this project to go ahead.
“And people who sat and debated and participated in the decision come and use the court process to frustrate the project. Is that acceptable? I believe that those in charge of justice must sit up.”
