Black Stars head Coach Avram Grant has told Citi Sports, he is delighted with the progress of his team since he took over in December 2014.
When the 60-year-old Israeli took charge, he immediately made his influence felt by leading the team to finish second in the Africa Cup of Nations which was held in Equatorial Guinea in January.
Grant has also to a large extent, altered the style of play, with the team recording emphatic score lines like the 7-1 thumping of Mauritius in the opener of the 2017 AFCON qualifiers.
The former Chelsea, West Ham and Portsmouth boss says he couldn’t have asked for more in his first nine months as head Coach of the Black Stars.
“You know its nine months since I took the team and for a national team it is a lot of progress,” Grant said.
”I am very happy with what I have done here and I think it is a good base for the future.”
Grant exclusively revealed to Rahman Osman, Citi FM’s reporter in Kigali, Rwanda, that he took the Black Stars job because of three main reasons;
- To take the team and all the country out of the trauma of the world cup
- Make a strong Black Stars side
- Take care of the future because Ghana is country with a lot of talent
Grant also said he had found an antidote for the leakage in the team’s defense.
“I am really happy about results, the way we play and we do not concede goals. Before I came Ghana used to concede a lot of goals but now it is not so. The atmosphere is good and the players fighting for every ball is making me happy,” he said.
Ghana is going into another AFCON qualifier with Rwanda after defeating Mauritius 7-1 in Accra in their last international game.
Skipper Asamoah Gyan is not likely to feature in this game because of a knee injury, however, in-form Andre Dede Ayew will captain in Saturday’s encounter.
