Members of the Concerned Food Vendors in Akyem Abuakwa in the Atiwa East district of the Eastern Region have vowed to stop paying the Medical Levy imposed on them by the assembly after it was increased from GHS20 to GH25.
According to the vendors, although they have paid the levy for years, no benefit has been realised from the contributions.
The Atiwa East District Assembly has said payment of the new rate will begin on the 10th of April.
Speaking with Accra News on Saturday March 25, the leader of the group, Akua Doris, reiterated its resolve not to pay the new amount, adding that all the assembly does is to continually subject vendors to needless medical screening.
