The Electoral Commission (EC) is investigating a vociferous member of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly at Ridge Nhyieaso Electoral Area, Abraham Boadi, for allegedly falsifying information about his educational background.
The investigation follows a petition filed by a colleague aspirant, Kwame Karikari Abrokwah, challenging the latter’s claim he is a trained journalist.
The EC has also cancelled the nomination of another outspoken member of the KMA, at the Dechemso Electoral Area, Kwabena Nsenkyire.
The latter has since placed an injunction on the Dechemso elections.
Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, Paul Boateng, says the Commission is investigating Ridge Nhyiaeso Assembly Member’s claim he holds a Diploma in Journalism.
Documents made available to the EC indicate Abraham Boadi who has led the area for two successive terms dropped out in the middle of his second cycle education at the Kumasi Secondary Technical in Kumasi.
The petitioner Kwame Abrokwah also indicated there are no documents to prove he is a journalist.
“I also did my little investigation which proved that he dropped out of school at the Kumasi secondary Technical School. I want the Electoral Commission to investigate and if it’s found out that he doesn’t have any certificate for journalism then it means he lied,” he told Luv News.
Though Abraham Boadi does not deny the claims, he tells Luv News he has become a journalist by understudying other media personnel in Kumasi.
“In our form, they requested for my position and I said I’m a journalist. My friend, you are a journalist, how many types of journalists do we have? We have a trained journalist and a certified journalist. I’m a trained journalist,” he claimed.
“I tried to go to journalism school based on financial difficulties, but I feel I can do that particular work so I decided to walk with the competent and well trained journalists in Kumasi, that they have trained me,” he said.
