The Chancellor of Perez University College (PUC), Bishop Charles Agyinasare, has advised matriculants of the school not to underestimate small beginnings.
Speaking at the 11th matriculation ceremony of the College at Gomoa Pomadze in the Central Region on Saturday 11 March, the founder of Perez Chapel International told the students: “Though your beginning may be small, your later end would greatly increase,” adding: “Every big thing starts small; today’s big men were yesterday’s small boys, today’s big churches were yesterday’s small churches.”
Bishop Agyinasare also urged the students to gain understanding in knowing what to do at the right time.
He advised them against envying or ridiculing anyone since everyone runs their own race.
Bishop Agyinasare charged students to be committed and disciplined as they begin another academic year.
“Anything we do and fail is on us, so, commitment is so necessary. No one accomplished anything who was not committed to his task. Another major tool to transform our world is discipline. We are into building a university with a difference, where people would come out as disciplined leaders who can employ themselves if no one has given them a job,” he said.
Bishop Agyinasare also impelled students to spend quality time studying and stop wasting their time on phones and social media. “Friends who do not motivate you to study must be avoided,” he added.
Former President of the Ghana Journalists Association, Mr Kabral Blay Amihere, was the guest speaker at the matriculation.
He encouraged students to study hard to achieve their aim.
“You can’t achieve something meaningful if you live without a purpose. Discover your potentials and fulfil them. This is the simple way you can thrive,” the former ambassador said.
Mr Amihere also donated books to the university’s library.
The ceremony saw 140 students being matriculated into the School of Business and School of Theology.
Some matriculants who spoke with Class News’ Maxwell Attah were very grateful and optimistic they would achieve their career development goals.
Stakeholders of the University College hope the institution would be among the top 10 universities in Ghana in the next 10 years.
Perez University College, formerly known as Pan African Christian University College, had a ban placed on admissions due to inadequate infrastructure, lifted in October 2016 by National Accreditation Board (NAB) after Perez Chapel International acquired the school.
Currently, a 2,000-seater auditorium, two-storey lecture blocks, and several renovation works are ongoing on campus.
There are also plans to construct bungalows for lecturers before the end of the year.
Rector of Perez University College, Prof Joshua Danso Owusu-Sekyere told Class News on the sidelines of the event that the institution has advanced plans to add more programmes including BA Communication and Social Sciences by September 2017.
Perez University College offers degree programme such as BA Theology, BBA Banking and Finance, BBA Accounting, BBA Marketing and BBA Human Resources Management.
Other non-tertiary programmes offered include General Business Certificate Exams (GBCE), Advance Business Certificate Exams (ABCE), Certificate in Ministry, and Certificate in Entrepreneurship.
The programmes are being run on regular, weekend, and sandwich bases.
