Government’s decision to dissolve the Ghana Football Association (GFA) following the scandal involving FA President Kwesi Nyantakyi and other officials is a good decision, Nana Brew-Buttler, Former Chairman of the GFA has said.
Government says it is taking steps to immediately dissolve the Ghana Football Association (GFA) following the recently aired video documentary by undercover journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, titled: ‘Number 12 When Misconduct and Greed Become the Norm’, which captured widespread corruption in Ghana football.
The documentary exposed gross graft within the GFA characterised by widespread fraud, corruption and bribery.
Government, in a statement signed by Minister of Information, Dr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, said following the involvement of top GFA officials, NSA officials, match commissioners, football administrators and referees in corruption as captured in the undercover piece, it has decided to take immediate steps to have the GFA dissolved.
All officials captured in corrupt practices have also been referred to the police for further investigation and appropriate action.
Speaking on the Ghana Yensom show on Accra 100.5FM hosted by Chief Jerry Forson on Friday June 8, Mr Brew-Buttler said: “What has happened to our football is most unfortunate, it is regrettable.”
“The government’s decision is a good step taken if that is what will deal with the problem and protect our football.
“There is this notion that the government cannot interfere in football but that is a wrong impression. All the national teams represent Ghana and they sing Ghana National anthem, and so the government comes in. All I am saying is that the government’s decision is good but I will want them to do it the right way.”
