A youth group in Apedwa in the Eastern Region has cautioned Mr Owuraku Amofa, the former one-term member of Parliament for Abuakwa and a former Deputy Minister of Tourism during ex-President J.J. Rawlings’ tenure to desist from taking credit for development projects in the constituency he had no had in building.
According to the group, Mr Amofa is going round Abuakwa South constituency misinforming the public that all projects done by Nana Akufo-Addo who was the MP between 1997 and 2008 are his (Amofa’s) achievements.
“We want to ask the desperate and frustrated former MP to tell us who was the MP between 1996 to 2008? As the former Deputy Minister of Tourism, was he able to help create a simple tourist attraction site in the constituency? Why is he deceiving the public and lying to take credit of projects done after he has lost in 1996?” they asked in a statement.
The group also described as “lies”, claims by the NDC’s Eastern regional Secretary Mark Oliver-Kevor that roads in Akyem Apedwa have been constructed by the NDC government. “That is a blatant lie from the NDC and we are making it clear to the general public that, the NDC has no legacy to boast of at Akyem Apedwa,” the statement added.
The Apedwa youth claim Mr Amofa could not even afford to offer their party faithful at Akyem Apedwa jobs at private waste firm Zoomlion but all they did was to move from one village to another with TV sets showing movies.
“We want Owuraku Amofa and his NDC to tell us how many youths in Abuakwa South have benefited from their government as far as employment is concern? How many scholarships has he awarded to our brothers and sister in the constituency for the past 10 years? He cannot buy the minds of the good people from Akyem Apedwa with slippers; how much is chale wote?” they asked.
Mr Amofa is currently contesting the Abuakwa South seat on the ticket of the NDC.
