President Nana Akufo-Addo has not tweeted or sent any invitation to Bastie Samir to offer him a meal of banku following his cruiserweight bout victory over Bukom Banku on Saturday night at the Bukom Boxing Arena, Kow Essuman, Social Media Manager for the President, has stated.
According to him, their “attention has been drawn to a screenshot being circulated on social media platforms, to the effect that the President purportedly sent out a tweet, at 7:55AM on 22nd October, 2017, to congratulate Bastie and inviting him to the Flagstaff House to eat Banku”.
Bukom Banku was beaten by Samir in a fight dubbed ”Make or Break”, ending Banku’s undefeated record when the fight was stopped in the seventh round after Samir sent his opponent to the canvas.
Mr Essuman indicated: “While we congratulate Bastie on his success in the bout against Bukom Banku, we wish to draw the general public’s attention to the fact that the purported tweet is fake and a creation of the imagination of certain mischievous persons”.
This was contained in a press statement he issued on Sunday, October 22.
“The President has not sent out any such tweet and therefore, we entreat the general public to disregard the purported tweet being circulated on social media platforms,” the statement emphasized.
The public was also entreated to take note of the President’s official social media handles to avoid being unsuspecting agents of “mischievous persons”.
“The President’s handles on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram are @NAkufoAddo and all handles have been verified,” the statement clarified.
