The Ghana Black Stars are to receive an amount of US$1.5million after a disappointing campaign which saw them place fourth at the just-ended 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.
The champions of the tournament, Cameroon, will receive US$4million, up from the $1.5million paid the winner of the last edition of the tournament. Silver medallists Egypt take home US$2million.
This was made possible after a new contract between French petroleum group Total and CAF in excess of one billion dollars (EUR 915 million) was signed.
The Black Stars will have another opportunity in 2019 to win the AFCON after more than 35-years since it last won it. The 2019 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations will be hosted by champions Cameroon.
