Police in the Ashanti South Region have arrested three individuals in connection with the alleged killing of the Kusasi Chief in Asawase in July 2025.
The suspects have been identified as Jamil Usman (Babamu/Guru), Suleman Yasir Arafat (Obasanjo), and Ashiadu Sumbeida (Eyeshadow).
Addressing the media in Bekwai on Tuesday, March 17, Ashanti South Regional Police Commander, DCOP Joseph Hammond Nyaaba, said arrangements are underway to transfer the suspects to the Ashanti Regional Police Command for further investigations.
He added that a key suspect, Illiasu (Abodam), remains at large and appealed to the public for assistance. “We are urging members of the public to provide credible information that will lead to the arrest of the suspect,” he said.
DCOP Nyaaba revealed that a cache of weapons was recovered during the operation, including two AK-47 assault rifles, one pump-action gun, two pistols, and 44 rounds of .32 ammunition, highlighting the seriousness of the case.
The Regional Commander noted that the arrests reflect the police’s intensified efforts to combat violent crime in the area. He expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police for his support, commended officers for their professionalism, and acknowledged the role of the public in providing crucial information that led to the arrests.
