Govt committed to democracy — Dep. Info. Min.

A Deputy Minister of Information, Nana Dokua Asiamah-Adjei, has said the decentralisation of the national policy summit on regional basis demonstrates the government’s commitment to deepening democracy.

She noted that the summit, like other flagship programmes, formed an integral part of the ministry’s strategic objective of ensuring responsive governance and citizen participation in the development dialogue.

It is also to improve participation of civil society including the media, traditional authorities, religious bodies in national development.

National Policy Summit

The deputy minister made the remarks at the sixth National Policy Summit in Cape Coast with a focus on the fisheries and sanitation sectors.

According to her, the government will not rest but re-double its series of public engagements with the citizenry in the regions as part of the core vision to bring governance and development to the doorstep of the ordinary person.

She reassured the gathering that the government would continue to adopt pragmatic programmes and well thought out policies that cut across political and ethnic persuasions to ensure that all resources were pooled to ensure accelerated national development.

Nana Asiamah-Adjei called on stakeholders in the democratic dispensation to work closely with the government to attain democratic credentials that would be exemplary to nations.

The Omanhene of the Essikado Traditional Area, Nana Kobina Nketsia V, stressed the urgent need for the government to provide sanitation tools, equipment and logistics to tackle the menace. —GNA
